HUEE 2017 PSA School Video Contest Winners
Heartland Utilities for Energy Efficiency (HUEE) is proud to announce the winners of the “Secure Energy Future” video contest. Sixth through eighth grade students in the Kansas City metro area were encouraged to create 120-second public service announcements (PSAs) that promote energy efficiency at home or at school. Four area middle schools were selected to receive grant money for their participation.
For Missouri, Plaza Middle School won first place with $3,500, and Kearney Middle School won second place with $2,500. For Kansas, Spring Hill Middle School won first place with $3,500, and Piper Middle School received second place with $2,500.
Students were instructed to create a PSA that covered one of the following areas:
How energy is being used and how it can be conserved
Energy wasting habits or appliances and how to correct these habits
Energy conservation alternatives
Renewable energy resources
“This is our seventh year getting local youth involved in energy conservation,” said Shaylyn Dean, HUEE President. “The videos are getting better and better each year and we are impressed with the talent of the students. We hope the students continue to promote energy saving habits throughout their schools and communities.”
